You have access to an easy test to track, then slow, much of the aging process. You can get your doctor to do the test or you can easily and inexpensively do it on your own.
But don’t expect the doctor to understand what you are doing—he/she will even likely discourage you because they do not understand why/how this test is useful and they don’t generally care about aging or anti-aging because no drugs or procedures are involved.
This is another aspect of the kind of DIY health that I advocate in my book, Undoctored.
About Undoctored:
We are entering a new age in which the individual has astounding power over health–but don’t count on the doctor or healthcare system to tell you this.
We draw from the health information of the world, collaborate, share experiences, collect data, and show how to apply new health tools to achieve levels of health that you may have thought unattainable. We do all this at a time when conventional healthcare costs have become crippling.
The result: personal health that is SUPERIOR to that obtained through conventional means.
Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You and How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor

I love your health blog and dietary advice. I’ve been paleo/ketosis for almost 10 years. It transformed me into a 30lbs overweight “skinny-fat” person to 11% body fat and strong as well. I look better than I did when I was 25 (I’m 57 now) AND I cured my pre-diabetes. I’m an RN and it saddens me to see the state of what we call “healthcare” today.
Now, my wife is on board. She needs to lose 15lbs. She has been doing strict ketosis for 7 1/2 weeks now, but hasn’t lost an ounce. Not one. Her measurements have not changed either. What could be the problem. We are very frustrated. Any advice?

Here are some leads on the usual suspects: Weight Loss Stall?
I might further remark that ketosis per se is only assured to address one of the usual suspects (excess net carbs), and tends to unintentionally aggravate any role played by dysbiosis, as generic KD isn’t necessarily attentive to obtaining adequate prebiotic fiber (resistant-but-not-roughage carbs).
Also, there’s a small chance that a random KD might increase Omega 6 fats by mistake, and excess linoleic acid is no friend to weight loss.

I checked for the usual suspects and can’t find any. When I tracked what she ate, She was higher on omega 3 than 6. Her net carbs are less than 20. She eats between 1000 and 1200 calories a day.
Clarification: all of her weight is abdominal. She’s trim everywhere else. She’s 5’9″ tall. It’s just that gut that won’t go away. Bust measures 37″. Tummy also measures 37″. I’ve had her on a pre-biotic and probiotic. We do not eat any vegetable oils at all. We only use coconut oil and Kerrygold butter (and have been for years). We don’t eat wheat and haven’t for years.

If the diet includes dairy, has an elimination trial been considered?
On thyroid, what are the readings for fT3, fT4, rT3, TSH and any Thyroid Antibody tests you might have?
What’s HbA1c?
More on labs here (units of measure and lab Reference Ranges matter).
